Renowned British actor Idris Elba has revealed his intentions to relocate to Africa within the next decade, as part of his commitment to supporting the continent’s growing film industry.
The 52-year-old star of The Wire is already spearheading projects to establish film studios in both Zanzibar, Tanzania, and Accra, Ghana. Born in London to a Ghanaian mother and a Sierra Leonean father, Elba has a deep connection to Africa and aims to use his influence to promote its film industry, emphasizing the importance of Africans telling their own stories.
“I’m going to live in Accra, Freetown, and Zanzibar,” Elba shared, adding that his move is inspired by a desire to be where the stories are being told. “That’s really important,” he said, underscoring his passion for elevating African narratives on the global stage.
