Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police (IGP) Mr. William Fayia Sellu has informed that the Human Capital Development which is unfolding in the force is one of the Game Changers of President Julius Maada Bio
In his keynote address at the closure of the six weeks training for 210 personnel in Cyber security, Forensic and Public Order Management at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA) Hastings Campus on Tuesday 29 October, 2024, IGP Sellu disclosed that the essence of the training was driven by the fact that when they looked at what was happening in the SLP, the saw the need for human capital development, which he said was coincidentally tied up to one of the game changers of President Julius Maada Bio.
As a force, he said they will not allow the training to go in vain because it came with huge investment from government, investment in terms of money, technology, skills and time.
The training he went on to say came with two contracts, one of which was going through it and the second now is their performance going forward.
Professionalism and effectiveness, the Police Chief said is at three levels, including individual level, team level and Institutional level.
He expressed hope that beneficiaries will make difference by making a change in their patterns of behaviour and the way they handle public order issues.
He furthered that they have embarked on a very transformative and enticing process of transforming the SLP from “Force” to “Service”
The training he therefore said was a building block and foundation in transforming the SLP.
Alongside the transformation drive, the SLP he said has embarked on two keys issues, the reviewing of the 1964 Police Act and the 2001 Police Disciplinary Regulations to address any legal implications.
“As you leave here, we want to see how you are going to contribute to the effectiveness of the SLP ” said IGP Sellu emphasising on the SLP Strategic Development Goal which he said is their guide.
Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr Ahmed A Sannoh, reiterated the need on enhance capacity in handling public order challenges. Stating that as security, they have the responsibility to create the enabling environment for the socio-economic development of the country.
He thanked President Bio and his government for putting such training together.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of First YUMAJ Nigeria Ltd Alhaji Yussif Manjalo in his contributions disclosed that the training was tailored in skills that are relevant for the modern Police officers in order to effectively tackle the dynamics security challenges that threatened the peace, safety and security of the people of Sierra Leone.
The multi-dimensional and inter disciplinary approach to the training that concluded the forensic investigations, operations and tactics were necessitated by the fact that effective policing requires balance integration of physical security systems, network and cyber security system, intelligent security system and other security system that overlap and integrate multiple technologies for efficient and effective policing.
