Former Minister of Works and seasoned diplomat, Hon. Alimamy Petito Koroma, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the All People’s Congress (APC).
His announcement marks a significant moment in the party’s ongoing efforts to strengthen unity and rebuild its image ahead of future national elections.
Hon. Koroma, widely respected for his calm demeanor and reconciliatory leadership style, has long been seen as a bridge-builder within the APC. His political journey spans over three decades, beginning with his service as General Secretary of the Council of Churches in Sierra Leone before moving into government and diplomatic roles. He has consistently emphasized dialogue, mediation, and inclusivity as tools for party cohesion.
In his declaration message, Hon. Alimamy Petito Koroma said he wants to see a progressive and unified APC family for the common purpose of winning the next election.
In recent years, Koroma has been vocal about the need to resolve internal divisions within the APC, particularly tensions between the party’s executive and its 2023 presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara. His candidacy is expected to focus on restoring trust, fostering reconciliation, and positioning the APC as a credible alternative in Sierra Leone’s political landscape.
APC supporters describe him as a “calm force for unity and progress,” highlighting his blend of political experience, diplomatic skill, and commitment to national service. His declaration is likely to energize grassroots members who have been calling for a leadership style that prioritizes peace and inclusivity.
