Are Sierra Leoneans watching the ongoing Afcom tournament in Ivory Coast? How do we feel watching countries such as The Gambia, Cape Verde, Mauritania, Guinea Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea Guinea participating with grand styles?
If you follow the news media in Sierra Leone at the moment they’re mainly focused on former President Ernest Koroma’s traveling to Nigeria and not on the news coming on the Afcom tournament in Ivory Coast.
The name Mohamed Kallon is synonymous with Football to such an extent that one can’t separate the two.
Kallon is Football and Football is Kallon.
He is well-known across the world.
Without any argument, Mohammed Kallon is the single most popular Footballer ever to have emerged from Sierra Leone. Try it if you don’t believe it!
In 2003, I was part of a Sierra Leone delegation to the African Department Bank in Tunis, Tunisia.
At the Abu Nawas Hotel lobby, I bumped into some Arab guests. They were curious about knowing which country I was coming from. I told them that I was from Sierra Leone. Simultaneously, all four of them shouted, Mohammed Kallon!!!!. They shouted in their broken English. He is a good man: good: good: good footballer. I wanted to believe that it was only Mohamed Kallon they knew from Sierra Leone.
There’s no continent in the world where Mohammed Kallon hasn’t played, Africa, the USA, Europe, and Asia. He is a well-trained and qualified Coach. Owner of a Premier division club, FC. Kallon.
Now that the young man is still active and ready to serve his country, why can’t President Julius Maada Bio appoint him as, Sierra Leone’s 1st Football Ambassador At-Large, Plenipotentiary?
Oh, Salone!
