Deputy Ministers from Sierra Leone participate at Culture & Arts Education Conference in Abu Dhabi

Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Sarjoh Aziz-Kamara and Deputy Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Kadijatu Ahene Kamara have participated at the World Conference on Culture & Arts Education in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Higher Education Minister, who led the Sierra Leone delegation, said that to navigate the complex and dynamic landscape, it was crucial to equip learners with the necessary skills needed to thrive, adding that the integration of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in education systems presented an unparalleled opportunities to provide a more inclusive, personalized, and engaging learning experience. He encouraged participants to seize the moment and harness the power of technology to bridge the gap between cultures and foster a sense of global citizenship.

“Today in Sierra Leone, the enabling environment with the requisite ecosystem is speedily being shaped to support culture and arts education. We have an operational Directorate of Science Technology and Innovation, and a new ministry of communication, technology and innovation, all in an effort to boost our young people to adopt tech-savvy mind-set. Our curriculum review in schools has strongly factored creativity, civics and ICT as key components. The foundation is set to ensure Sierra Leone is fully onboard on the implementation of the UNESCO framework for Culture and Arts Education,” he added.

Deputy Tourism & Cultural Affairs Minister, Kadijatu Ahene Kamara also delivered a statement on ‘Partnerships and financing in support of culture and arts education’.

Sierra Leone participated as Vice-Chair of the African Bureau of the World Conference on Culture & Arts Education. The Conference also adopted the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization Framework for Culture and Arts Education.
