Mogbwemo Queens crowned Female Premier League champions

The Mogbwemo Town Field in Rutile was a scene of jubilation and celebration as the Mogbwemo Queens were officially crowned champions of the 2023/24 Sierra Leone Female Premier League. The team secured their title in spectacular fashion with a resounding 6-0 victory over Albitaya Queens, finishing the season with an impressive 64 points.

The official championship crowning ceremony was graced by the presence of the Sierra Leone Football Association President Thomas Daddy Brima, who was accompanied by senior officials including Head of SLFA Female Football Committee Madam Ramatulai Kamara, who also doubles as an Executive Committee member, Acting General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh, Director of Competitions Sorie Ibrahim Sesay, and Protocol and Event Officer Alusine Aiah Kabba. The presence of these distinguished figures underscored the significance of the event and the continued support for women’s football in Sierra Leone.

In his address before handing over the championship trophy to the captain of Mogbwemo Queens, President Brima congratulated the team on their outstanding achievement. “Mogbwemo Queens have demonstrated exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the season,” he remarked. “Their back-to-back titles are a testament to their hard work and dedication. I also want to commend all the participating teams for their commitment and competitive spirit, which have made this tournament a success.”

Madam Ramatulai Kamara echoed these sentiments, praising the efforts of all the teams and emphasizing the importance of supporting female football at all levels. Her presence highlighted the ongoing efforts to promote and develop women’s football in the country.

The Mogbwemo Queens’ triumph not only solidifies their dominance in the national league but also earns them the honor of representing Sierra Leone at the continental level in the CAF Africa Women’s Club Championship 2024/25.
