Former APC heavyweight, Alhaji Alpha Kanu, has predicted defeat for his former party in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Liberty Online Television, the former Minister of Information and Communications and also former Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources under former President Ernest Bai Koroma said he abandoned the APC because of what he described as hostility and rejection within the party.

“They don’t like me, and they won’t win,” Kanu declared during the interview.

He praised the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) for what he described as achievements in education, mining, agriculture, and fisheries, insisting that with the right presidential candidate, the party stands a stronger chance of victory in 2028.

Asked whether he would accept an appointment from the APC if the party unexpectedly returned to power, Kanu dismissed the possibility.

“How can I accept an appointment from the APC when they are not going to win?” he responded.

Kanu reaffirmed his loyalty to the SLPP, declaring that he would remain with the party “for life.”

His remarks are expected to deepen discussions about internal divisions within the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), especially as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2028 elections. Analysts say his comments reflect growing tensions and dissatisfaction among some former APC loyalists.

The former minister’s public endorsement of the SLPP also strengthens the ruling party’s narrative of attracting experienced political figures from across the divide. His declaration of lifelong loyalty to the SLPP is being viewed by supporters as both symbolic and strategic in Sierra Leone’s evolving political landscape.
