The political climate in Kono District is becoming increasingly unpredictable by the tick of the clock as we closely approaches June 24 Multitier elections.
As if that isn’t enough, even the loyalty of the politicians themselves to any particular political party is highly unpredictable too.
The latest move by Merverick and veteran politician Lawyer Charles Francis Margai, Leader of the PMDC Party has crowned it all. No one saw it coming not even soothsayers in the district. Charles Margai came from behind and in the 11th hour of nomination, formed an alliance with the C4C party and filled in candidates in all wards and constituencies in the entire district under the umbrella of his own party PMDC. Luckily for Ngor Charles C4C has been disqualified from taking part in the upcoming elections. Its yet to be confirmed whether Ngor Charles will fill in a presidential candidate against incumbent president Julius Maada Bio a former friend and hopefully not foe.
Meanwhile, the reality on the ground in Kono confirmed the SLPP has made significant penetration with the latest wave of defection and declarations for the party. The first lady and VP. Juldeh have been pounding and doing what Gen. Maxwell Khobi will call “Mopping Up Operations”, to ensure that even the dreaded “Adamu and his men” aren’t left out in throwing their support to the party.
However, where does this ‘political acrobatic jingoism’ leaves the main opposition APC party?
It was expected that rather than the splinter group of C4C joining the PMDC, they should have returned back to their old APC party. It’s a plain truth that Kono politicians themselves contributed immensely in destroying the APC party in the district. They have narrowed the chances of the APC party winning in the district. The game is now between the ruling SLPP and the PMDC party come June, 2023.
But in politics they say, anything is possible!
