The Leader of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) Party, Dr Kandeh Yumkella has sold out the party to the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) ahead of the 24th June 2023 elections in return for Ministerial, Ambassadorial and Board Members of parastatal appointments.
Dr Kandeh Yumkella in his new marriage with the SLPP with a so-called Progressive Alliance which he claims to be in the interest of national cohesion, has turned out to be one of the deceitful plans for Dr Kandeh Yumkella.
A two-page alliance agreement signed between Dr Kandeh Yumkella on behalf of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) Party and President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), noted among other things that: President Bio shall be the sole Presidential candidate of the alliance in the coming elections and that if the Alliance wins the Presidential Elections, NGC will be included in an inclusive government wherein the NGC shall be allocated several positions as mutually agreed in various categories of the appointments in governance such as Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Ambassadors and Board Members.
Dr Yumkella’s decision has left the National Chairman of the Party members in disbelief and frustrations accusing him of betrayal as the NGC was formed on the bases of serving as a third force and an alternative to the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the opposition; All People’s Congress that has ruled the country since independence.
Dr Yumkella is on record to have accused both the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the opposition All People’s Congress of being responsible for the deplorable state of affairs of the country while nicknaming both parties as Alusine and Alansan meaning they are both of the same feathers that shall not be trusted to handle the governance of the state any more, but the NGC.
Dr Kandeh Yumkella’s actions have been described by many political analysts as political dishonesty, deceitfulness and betrayal whose interest is seeking personal benefit than seeking the interest of the state and that Yumkella should not be trusted with power.
It could be recalled that a few months ago the Chairman of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) Party, Dr Denish Bright resigned from the party. Dr Bright in his frustrated letter of resignation said he felt betrayed by a party he had suffered for going in the wrong direction. Dr Bright said he is leaving the party with a heavy heart to spend time with his family and serve God.
The Informant has been intimated that Dr Yumkella is now lobbying President Bio for him to be appointed as Chief Minister or Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
