As Sierra Leoneans come together to celebrate Christmas, even amidst challenging economic times, it’s a beautiful reminder of the unity found in our diversity. The season’s joy is felt by all, transcending tribal, regional, and political divides. The call for solidarity in lifting each other knows no boundaries, for a peaceful and prosperous country is essential for everyone’s well-being. Regardless of religious beliefs, people are united in their desire to embrace the historical Christmas spirit joyously.

Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting various nightclubs, social gatherings, and events, observing people from all walks of life coming together with one common goal – to revel in the Christmas festivities, dancing, and sharing lighthearted moments without concern for tribal distinctions. It’s heartwarming to witness this spirit of togetherness and joy.

The only difference is between the haves and the have not. That is why our national discussion should be redirected to discussing economic equality. How to let everyone have money and enjoy the next Christmas irrespective of tribe or from which region one is from.

However, it’s perplexing that tribal affiliations often seep into our political discussions, creating unnecessary divisions. This phenomenon underscores the influence of politicians in perpetuating tribal tensions, which is detrimental to our nation. We must reject this divisive mindset. Sierra Leone’s constitution acknowledges and celebrates our diverse cultural and traditional values, aiming for a unified nation under the banner of Sierra Leone. Let’s flourish in our diversity, unite in purpose, and cherish our beloved land. Merry Christmas to you all!
