In a compelling and touching message, the Sierra Leone Association of Women in Journalism regional Coordinator in the North Fatmata Marian Sesay has on the 27th July 2024 inspired young girls in Yoni Chiefdom to make education a priority for sustainable development.
Also, a journalist at Radio Gbafth in Mile 91, Sesay delivered the speech reminding young girls of their importance in society on Saturday 27th July 2024 to over 20 girls at ONE GIRL Sierra Leone end of the academic year meeting with girls at Mile 91.
In her speech focusing on Teenage Pregnancy, Sesay deliberates on the causes, effect and prevention. She emphasized the importance of girls education and how they can prevent themselves from teenage pregnancy during the school holidays.
The girls debated on the importance of allowing pregnant girls in school, advantages and disadvantages. As a role model in the community, she said her role is to ensure girls in Yoni Chiefdom and beyond become responsible citizens. Early marriage and teenage pregnancy, the female journalist said have affected girls in so many ways and she urged all of the girls present to focus on their education.
When a girl is educated, Sesay said the entire nation benefits which was why she was emphasizing the need for the girls to refrain from anything that might hinder their education.
ONE GIRL Sierra Leone is a non-governmental organisation based in Mile 91 Tokolili district providing educational support to girls so they can stay in school.
Sesay is a respected journalist in the community especially for her role in advocating for women and girls in native Yoni Chiefdom. She is a recipient of many awards for both local and national levels notably for her journalism work and advocacy for girls and women.
