Betts Insurance Company (BIC) was officially launched on Friday 18th September 2026 at the prestigious Lagoonda Entertainment Complex, Aberdeen in Freetown at which event the Chairman of the Board of the company, Mr. Claudius Bert-Williams revealed that the new company is second to none, it’s independent with oversight and key governance structures underscoring that governance is fundamental.
Some of the products covered by the company include yourself, house, motor vehicle, business in minutes and personal accidents.
One can submit claims with photos, track every step and receive the payout straight into one’s TBI wallet. The policy is issued the moment payment clears. Also, the company covers goods imported in the country-all imports must be insured locally.
Customers can pay with orange money, Africell money and bank transfer. Claims pay straight into one’s wallet.
The Chief Executive Officer of BIC, Mr. Alfred Akibo Betts articulated that BIC would do something different as well as create impact and legacy not only in Sierra Leone but globally as it would take insurance to the next level affirming that the private sector drives growth, improves local businesses, that BIC would move to the new level adding that potential customers can now insurance within three minutes.
Mr. Alfred Akibo Betts further assured that the company would not take any decision based on personality but merit and represent Sierra Leone well reiterating that BIC would do its best to avoid the mistakes of other businesses, observed that every business starts small, that every new chapter has a beginning, affirmed that technology is now the norm in every sector and commended the Sierra Leone Insurance Company (SLICO) for the confidence reposed in BIC, launched six years ago.
The Commissioner of SLICO, Mr. Arthur Yaskey disclosed that the launch of the company is a testament of innovation and commitment, guaranteed that SLICO would ensure that the industry operates with integrity and contribute to a stronger market, create jobs for youths, enlightened that insurance is more than a financial project but also provides security and peace of mind and that the industry is playing a vital role in the country’s economic stability.
According to Mr. Yaskey, SLICO would continue to provide oversight and supervision as well as the conducive environment for the industry to thrive, appealed to players in the sector to learn to share businesses underscoring that together they can build a stronger sector that would contribute to national development and wished the new company every success.
Highlights of the well-attended event were video titled “In Conversation with the CEO: The Betts Group Journey,” musical interlude and video presentation: Our People, Our Journey and the networking reception. Some of the dignitaries who attended the event included the Minister of Trade and Industry and executives of banks and insurance companies.
