The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is set to commence another nationwide public education and stakeholder engagement tour targeting Paramount Chiefs and Chiefdom Authorities at Eastern Region on the 3rd, 4th and 11th February, 2026. This engagement is part of its sustained efforts to strengthen integrity, accountability, and transparency within traditional governance systems.

The engagement, themed “Strengthening Integrity in the Traditional Governance Architecture,” seeks to reinforce the critical role of traditional leaders as custodians of community trust, justice, land administration, and local governance, while positioning them as frontline champions in the national fight against corruption.

According to the ACC, the nationwide initiative is designed to enhance ethical leadership, promote compliance with the Anti-Corruption Act, and deepen awareness on corruption risks in chiefdom administration, including the management of land, customary court fines, community revenues, and development resources.

Speaking ahead of the engagement, Deputy Commissioner, ACC, Augustine Foday Ngobie, emphasized that the institution of chieftaincy remains a cornerstone of Sierra Leone’s governance, cultural identity, and grassroots accountability, and must therefore lead by example in upholding integrity.

“Paramount Chiefs and Chiefdom Authorities occupy positions of immense influence and trust. Strengthening accountability in traditional governance is essential to protecting community resources, preserving public confidence, and safeguarding national development,” he stated.

Mr. Ngobie further noted that corruption at the local level undermines service delivery, fuels conflict, weakens social cohesion, and deprives communities of opportunities for growth. “The fight against corruption is a national fight. The ACC cannot win this battle alone. It requires bold, principled, and patriotic leadership from our traditional authorities,”he added.

The upcoming tour will also provide a platform for dialogue, education, and experience-sharing, strengthening collaboration between the ACC and traditional leadership structures to build corruption-resistant chiefdoms across the country.

The ACC reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with traditional and local authorities to preserve the dignity of the chieftaincy institution and ensure that traditional governance continues to reflect the values of fairness, justice, and accountability.
